Testing out the GoPro HD Hero2

Got myself a GoPro HD Hero2 as a present to myself the other day, here is a clip testing it out with a short drive across Riffa, in the interest of not boring you to death I've sped up the playback and added music to cover up the sound of wind blast.

I have a bad cold but later on this week I will try and shoot some videos from my motorcycle.

Ramadan Kareem

Once again the holy month of Ramadan is upon us, a time of worship and reflection for observant Muslims around the world. During this past week I have had ample time to reflect myself and have decided to freshen up my Blog and post up some of my thoughts and ideas here as a creative space. Twitter and other micro-blogging/ social media platforms are great for posting headlines but they are dependent on linking to other websites and blogs to get to information of any real detail.

Anyway I suppose what I'm trying to say is that im going to be more active on my blog...

What is LTE/4G and what should we expect from it?

New Year New Technology LTE/4G Wireless Internet Finally Arrives In Bahrain

As the new year approaches two of Bahrain's leading telecom providers have made press releases regarding the implementation of new LTE/4G Wireless Internet.

First came Batelco with their Dec 25th  press release: Batelco Demonstrates 4G Mobile Technology wherein they announce "successful trial of LTE (Long Term Evolution) mobile technology at Batelco`s Hamala Headquarters on December 15th" but still no clear indication of when this service will be launched and provided to consumers.

Then three days later comes Viva Bahrain with their Dec 28th press release: VIVA First to Launch 4G LTE in Bahrain wherein they announce "the launch of its state of the art 4G LTE networks on the first day of 2012" the launch even for Viva's LTE service will be held on the 1st of January at City Center Mall.

Its still not clear what kind of speeds we should expect from Viva's LTE service but in their press release there is a mention of speeds reaching up to 100mbps. This is certainly an exiting development!

What Exactly Is A Maylas?

For those not familiar with the word "Maylas" is the Bahraini colloquial pronunciation for the word "Majlis" which is simply a room or designated space where people gather and socialize, at least that is its meaning in this context. In Bahrain traditionally large families and and important personalities regularly hold an open Majlis regularly and this has been a cornerstone of maintaining strong social links with both friends and family.

After much procrastination I've finally decided to start my own blog. For the past year I've been quite active on Twitter racking up over 13,000 tweets over the past few months, needless to say I have a lot to talk about. But  the very limiting nature of Twitters 140 characters effectively dumb down entire conversations into what can be best described as Facebook statuses.
